Enough of that sappy crap, I got a new obsession that should fill my time, ZOMBIES!!!! It's not anything new, but sometimes genres become mainstream because they are Awesome. The Walking Dead season 2.5 has started and although a rather dull episode, there was some development. Carl(Rick's son) said he would have shot Sophie too, a rather dark thought for a 13? year old boy to have. After finding Hershel at the bar those 2 ruff strange men approached, this scene really how social behavior and group dynamics degrade. Rick and Glenn after convincing Hershel to come back to the Farm run into the men who say their intended destination Fort Benning is overrun. One of the men walks in and openly urinates on the floor displaying the lack of social order. The men then demand to join their farm, but Rick explains there is no room. The men become agitated and show intentions to Shot. Rick swiftly kills them both without hesitation.
The men display the freedom in anarchy you experience, but also the hopelessness. They do what they please, but so does everyone else, and in this case Rick was protecting his people from harm and choose to kill both men. Brutal, Heartless, but necessary.
This new episode really got my blood pumping, this week I've been reading through The Zombie Survival Guide. The book has raise many discussions at work, mostly what tactics and items we think are reckless or ineffective. One coworker, believes a 12 gauge shotgun would be the best primary weapon, I really don't see how such a short kill shot range would be safe, yeah a hundred pellets to the face will leave your brains mush splattered on the light bulbs, but you try getting a tight group at 100 yards, not gonna happen. I also feel as though they should have a greater emphasise on .22 cal and other small cal like .223 and .17 as they are small and should have no problem piercing the skull at 100 yards. .22 especially as a box of 500 takes up about as much space as 50 to 100 of the others.
So the subject of Zombies brings up another interesting albit creepy and discusting subject; Necrophilia, a subject rarly mentioned in the genre, about all that's said(in the first 103 pages)in the book is the dead have no understanding or need for sex and infection for intercourse itself is rare, however if the dead is still animated, they could easily bite and scratch allowing for easy infection. People always see to festishize situtations and roles of their everyday life, whos to say necrophilia couldn't become common.
Okay enough of the nasty shit, what I've really taken from the book is the surival skill provided, this would be a great survival book for any apocalyptic situtation, short of the weapon and combat skills.
I think you are over looking something. Yes zombies are awful and spread with rapid speed, however I think a far greater danger is the spread of starbucks franchise thru out our nation, and yes I am trolling you:)
